The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Field Support Unit and Highway Interdiction Team were conducting narcotics suppression patrols in the area of North Fort Myers. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet sedan in the area of North Cleveland Avenue and North Key Drive. The driver was identified as Eric Thurman (DOB 11/14/79).
Thurman is no stranger to law enforcement, with a criminal history that includes Robbery with a Firearm, Battery (domestic violence), Grand Theft Auto, Carrying Concealed Firearm, Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, and several charges related to the sale of illegal narcotics.
During the stop, Thurman began fighting with detectives and was ultimately arrested. A search of his vehicle yielded the following: 67.2 grams of Fentanyl, 13.5 grams of Methamphetamine, and 3 grams of Amphetamine.
Thurman was charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl, Resisting Arrest With Violence, and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
“Illegal drugs destroy families and damage communities,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “Our deputies work hard, around the clock, to put drug dealers in jail where they belong.”
