Shortly after midnight on August 1, 2019, Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies located a stolen 2011 Kia Optima in the area of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Cranford Avenue in Fort Myers.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, but the occupants failed to yield. Shortly after, the vehicle drove into a waterlogged field and the occupants fled.
K-9 Koa and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit were immediately deployed and were able to locate the suspects in a heavily wooded area. Despite the thick vegetation, deep water and dark of night, the two suspects were apprehended.
Brandon Poteet (DOB 7/16/2001) and Demetrius Brown (DOB 12/21/1999) were both arrested for Grand Theft Auto and Resisting an Officer without violence.
